Innovation prize
for building board Premium
The first innovation prize from the "Fachverband Fliesen und Naturstein" (professional association for tiles and natural stone) goes to wedi, the Emsdetten-based provider of innovative building products. The professional association praised wedi's high standards of innovation in the "wedi building board Premium" product. Assessment criteria for the specialist jury were, amongst other things, the benefit for architects and for end customers and good marketability through the floor tiler. 17 companies responded to the announcement of the competition, presenting a total of 19 innovations within the scope of the Deutsche Fliesentage event in Ulm, Germany.
The professional association considered the large resonance of the first innovation prize as an outstanding basis for further cooperation in this area. "The sector depends on and is characterised by innovation", says Karl-Heinz Körner, member of the board of directors at the Fachverband Fliesen und Naturstein and chairman of the Landesinnungsverband Fliesen Baden-Württemberg (Baden-Württemberg tiling association).
Company owner Stephan Wedi is delighted about the prize: "It is clear to us that we have revolutionised our own building with the "building board Premium" and have, once again, reinforced our role as technical pioneers in the sector. So, all the more reason to be proud of being awarded with the innovation prize by the "Fachverband Fliesen und Naturstein".
The product was already attracting a great deal of attention at the BAU trade fair in Munich. The product's key feature is its integrated taper edge and the fact that it is reversible. One side is as normal with a structured surface, whilst the other side as a smooth cement-based surface. This new development offers all the benefits of the usual "wedi building board" whilst allowing even surfaces to be created at the same time. Therefore, even the direct application of mosaics and wallpaper is quick and simple.
